OTC 2027, the Offshore Technology Conference, runs from 3 to 5 May at NRG Park in Houston, and for 2027 it is co-located with URTeC, the unconventional resources technology conference. OTC has been the leading offshore energy event since 1969 and draws around 25,000 to 31,000 professionals.

Drilling, subsea systems, floating production, decommissioning, offshore wind and carbon capture are all covered. This guide explains what to know and how service and technology companies can reach operators.

What is OTC?

OTC focuses on technology for offshore resources: drilling, subsea systems, floating production, decommissioning and, increasingly, offshore wind and CCUS. It combines technical papers with a large exhibition of service companies and equipment makers.

From 2027 OTC is co-located with URTeC (unconventional resources), which broadens the audience.

Where does OTC take place?

NRG Park (NRG Center and outdoor exhibits), Houston.

Does it change location? No. Houston every May.

Who you’ll meet at OTC

  • Engineers from energy majors and NOCs
  • Service-company executives
  • Procurement and project managers
  • Government and regulators
  • Investors

Decision-makers attend, but they are busy and protective of their time. The teams that get the most out of this show reach out weeks in advance with a specific reason to meet.

Why OTC matters for sales teams

Offshore projects are large and technical, and they bring together operators, service companies, EPCs and equipment suppliers. OTC is where engineering and procurement teams from energy majors and national oil companies come to evaluate technology.

The co-location with URTeC in 2027 adds onshore unconventional players, which widens the audience. For vendors, segmenting by operator versus service company, and offshore versus onshore, is the first step to useful outreach.

Who should attend OTC?

Best for: vendors with a defined segment in offshore energy who are ready to filter the attendee base by role and company size.

Less ideal for: teams expecting qualified leads to come to them. At OTC, the useful meetings are almost always arranged before the show opens.

Passes and pricing

Option Price / details
Also good to know Registration fees on otcnet.org (member/non-member, exhibition-only options)
Also good to know Exhibition-only access historically low cost; full conference several hundred dollars+
Typical cost Low hundreds for exhibition access; more for full technical program.

Prices change between editions and by registration date, so treat these as a guide and check otcnet.org before you buy.

The OTC app and platform

OTC has offered an official mobile app in recent editions (program, exhibitors, maps).

If you plan to prospect through the event app, expect friction: limited search filters, caps on messages and connection requests, and no way to get the data into your CRM. It helps on the day, but it is not a target list.

OTC: strengths and weaknesses

Pros Cons
Energy majors and service companies attend Industry cyclicality
Strong technical credibility Technical audience
Houston is the global energy hub Large booths from service giants

How to prospect at OTC

When What to do
Early planning Pull the attendee, exhibitor and speaker lists and score them against your ideal customer profile.
Pre-show outreach Contact your top tier personally and your second tier with a short sequence. Aim to book meetings, not booth visits.
On site Work from a printed or mobile list of priority accounts and use breaks and evening events for warm introductions.
Post-show Follow up fast, share what you promised, and keep the list for next year’s edition.

OTC is a technical conference at heart. Outreach that references a specific paper session or technology area tends to get more replies than a general meeting request.
