BAU 2027 Munich: Architects, Exhibitors & Attendee List Guide
By Ilyas Kerbal,

BAU is the biggest building-industry fair in the world. Every two years it fills all of Messe München with about 200,000 visitors and more than 2,000 exhibitors. The next edition runs from 11 to 15 January 2027.
What makes BAU unusual is its audience. It is one of the largest gatherings of architects and planners anywhere, which makes it essential for any company whose sales depend on being specified in a project.

What BAU covers
BAU covers everything that goes into a building:
- Building materials: concrete, brick, timber, steel and glass
- Facades, windows, doors and solar shading
- Roofing, insulation and waterproofing
- Interior finishes, flooring and sanitary
- Building automation, smart building and BIM software
- Sustainable and circular construction
Its forums on sustainable construction, circular materials and digital planning draw large numbers of architects and engineers. Manufacturers launch product ranges on BAU’s two-year cycle.
Where it takes place
BAU uses Messe München in Munich, normally all 19 halls. It never changes location and runs in odd years. January means winter travel, so allow extra time for flights and trains.
Who attends BAU
| Audience | Why they come | Sales relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Architects and planners | New products and specification ideas | Decide what gets specified |
| Civil and structural engineers | Technical solutions | Influence material choice |
| Building contractors and trades | Products, tools, pricing | Execute and buy |
| Building-material dealers and distributors | New ranges and suppliers | Channel partners |
| Developers and housing companies | Cost, sustainability, compliance | Own the budget |
Specification-driven sales are slow and relationship-based. BAU is one of the few places where you can meet the specifier, the contractor and the distributor in the same week.

The BAU app
Messe München offers an official BAU app and online platform with exhibitor search, hall plans and the forum programme. Tickets arrive as QR codes.
It is a helpful navigation tool. It will not tell you which architecture practices or general contractors are coming, and you cannot export exhibitor data with contacts for outreach.
How to prospect BAU
- Segment the exhibitor list by building element (envelope, structure, interior, technology).
- Build a specifier list. Architects and planners do not exhibit, so they must be researched separately.
- Prioritise regions. BAU’s visitors come from across Europe, so focus on the countries where you have sales coverage.
- Invite people to forum sessions your company speaks at or sponsors. It is an easy first touch.
- Import everything into your CRM and tag by role so follow-up messages match the audience.
Pros and cons

| Best place to reach architects in volume | Biennial |
| Covers the full building envelope and interior | January travel in Munich |
| High-quality conference forums | So many halls that planning is essential |
| Online tickets are much cheaper | High exhibitor costs and hotel prices |
