bauma is the largest trade fair in the world by visitor numbers. Every three years, around 600,000 people from more than 200 countries walk the Messe München grounds to see construction, mining and building-material machinery. The next edition runs from 3 to 9 April 2028, and the whole industry plans product launches and sales targets around it.

For a sales team, that scale is both the opportunity and the problem. The buyers you want are there, but so are hundreds of thousands of people you don’t need to meet. This guide covers the practical facts about bauma 2028 and shows how to turn the exhibitor and visitor crowd into a short, enriched target list before you fly to Munich.

What bauma is really about

bauma is where the heavy-equipment business shows its next three years. Caterpillar, Liebherr, Komatsu, Volvo CE and Sany use the show to launch machines, and dealers, rental fleets and contractors sign large orders on the stand. The 2025 edition put a heavy focus on electrification, autonomous machines, digital construction sites and decarbonisation, and you can expect the same themes to dominate in 2028.

Because the show only happens every three years, budgets and buying decisions tend to pile up before it. That makes it one of the few trade fairs where a good share of visitors arrive with real purchase intent.

Where bauma takes place

bauma is held at Messe München in the Riem district of Munich. It fills every indoor hall and adds more than 400,000 m² of outdoor demonstration space, where excavators, cranes and drilling rigs run live. The show never rotates. Sister events such as bauma CHINA and bauma CONEXPO INDIA belong to the wider “bauma network” but run separately.

A practical note: Munich hotel prices rise sharply in bauma week. If you are exhibiting, book rooms as early as you book stand space.

Who attends bauma

The visitor base is broad, but a few groups matter most if you sell B2B products or services into construction and mining.

Audience Why they come What it means for sellers
Contractors and construction-company owners Compare machines, negotiate fleet orders Senior buyers with budget, but spread across seven days
Dealers, distributors and rental companies Secure brands, terms and allocation Strong targets for financing, software and parts suppliers
Mining and quarry operators Evaluate heavy equipment and processing tech Fewer in number, very high deal values
OEM engineers and procurement Source components, drives and electronics Key audience for tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers
Government agencies and delegations Infrastructure programmes and tenders Long cycles, large contracts

Organisers describe a strong share of top-management decision-makers among visitors from 200+ countries. The challenge is finding them before someone else does.

Exhibiting or walking bauma 2028? I build enriched exhibitor, speaker and visitor lists from the bauma app and website, with job titles, company size, industry and LinkedIn profiles, plus work emails where they can be found. Tickets and costs

bauma tickets are sold online only, with no sales at the gate. Based on 2025 pricing:

Ticket type Approximate price
Day ticket (online) €40–50
Multi-day ticket (online) €90–100, days need not be consecutive
Students and trainees Reduced rate

Many exhibitors also send free e-ticket codes to customers, so ask your partners before you buy. The real cost of bauma sits elsewhere: stand space is booked out years ahead and exhibitor budgets are among the highest of any European fair.

The bauma app and its limits

The official bauma app goes live shortly before the fair with the exhibitor directory, hall plans and the supporting programme, and the website keeps an exhibitor and product search online all year. It is useful for finding a stand. It is not built for prospecting. You can browse company names, but you cannot export them, you rarely see who from each company is attending, and you get no data on company size, buying role or contact details.

That gap is where most sales teams lose time. Someone ends up copying names into a spreadsheet and searching LinkedIn one by one, usually in the last week before the show.

A simple prospecting plan for bauma

  1. Pull the full exhibitor list early. With roughly 3,600 exhibitors, filter by hall, product category and country so you know which competitors, partners and customers will be there.
  2. Enrich it. Add company size, industry segment, headquarters and LinkedIn pages so you can rank accounts instead of guessing.
  3. Find the people. For each target account, identify the sales, procurement or engineering leads likely to travel to Munich.
  4. Book meetings two to four weeks out. Seven days sounds like plenty of time, but senior buyers fill their bauma diaries fast.
  5. Load everything into your CRM. Tag every record with “bauma 2028” so follow-up after the show is measurable.

Pros and cons of bauma for B2B sellers

Pros Cons
Almost every global construction and mining OEM and supplier attends Only every three years, so missing it hurts
High share of senior decision-makers with purchase intent Overwhelming size without a clear plan
Seven days to meet many accounts Munich hotels spike in price
The industry’s must-attend moment Exhibiting is expensive and space sells out early

Frequently asked questions

When is the next bauma?

The next bauma takes place from 3 to 9 April 2028 at Messe München. It runs every three years (2022, 2025, 2028).

Can I buy bauma tickets at the entrance?

No. bauma tickets are sold online only. Day tickets cost roughly €40–50 and multi-day tickets about €90–100.

Can I download the bauma exhibitor list?

The bauma app and website let you search exhibitors, but they do not offer a clean export with contacts. A prepared exhibitor and attendee list fills that gap.

Is bauma worth it for software or service companies?

Yes, if you sell to dealers, rental companies, contractors or OEMs. The audience is machinery-heavy, so a targeted list matters more than footfall.
