What is DTECH?
DTECH (formerly DistribuTECH) is where utilities evaluate technology for grid modernization: smart meters, distribution automation, DER management, grid software, cybersecurity and data centers’ load growth.
A Utility Partner Program offers discounted rates for utilities, which keeps the buyer share high. DTECH also runs regional events such as DTECH Northeast.
Location and venue
Rotates between US cities (e.g. San Diego, Dallas, Orlando, Atlanta).
Does it change location? Yes, it rotates each year with a host utility.

Why B2B teams should care about DTECH
Utilities buy slowly, through committees and long procurement processes, so relationships with engineering, operations and IT leaders matter. DTECH is where those people gather, helped by discounted utility rates that keep their attendance high.
For grid-tech vendors, the most valuable contacts are utility engineering, grid operations and IT leaders. Knowing which utilities are sending which roles helps you tailor invitations and use the app’s meeting tool effectively.
Is DTECH right for your team?
Go if your buyers work in electric utilities and you can identify the specific companies you want to meet. The budget holders are there; the work is in finding them among a large crowd.
Think twice if you can’t staff a booth or meeting schedule properly. Without a target list, DTECH can turn into a lot of pleasant conversations and very little pipeline.
How much does DTECH cost?
| Option | Price / details |
|---|---|
| Also good to know | Pricing on DTECH’s Registration Pricing page; Utility Partner Program gives utilities a discounted rate |
| Also good to know | Vendors pay higher full-conference rates; expo-only cheaper |
| Typical cost | Utilities: discounted; vendors: roughly $1,500-2,000 for full access (confirm). |
Prices change between editions and by registration date, so treat these as a guide and check distributech.com before you buy.
Does DTECH have an app?
Yes. The DTECH app lets attendees browse the agenda and exhibitors, and even send meeting invites to other attendees.
From a sales point of view, the app’s main limitation is access. You see the people who chose to be visible, you can’t pull them into your CRM, and once the event ends the data usually disappears with it.
Pros and cons of DTECH
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| High share of utility buyers | Long utility sales cycles |
| Discounted utility rates attract decision-makers | Rotating cities |
| App supports meeting invites | Technical audience |
A pre-show prospecting plan for DTECH
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Early planning | Pull the attendee, exhibitor and speaker lists and score them against your ideal customer profile. |
| Pre-show outreach | Contact your top tier personally and your second tier with a short sequence. Aim to book meetings, not booth visits. |
| On site | Work from a printed or mobile list of priority accounts and use breaks and evening events for warm introductions. |
| Post-show | Follow up fast, share what you promised, and keep the list for next year’s edition. |
Each DTECH has a host utility. Treat Southern Company and other Southeast utilities as priority accounts for 2027; they are likely to send larger teams to a home-region event.
